2016-2017 Academy of Dance info!!!

Hello all:
I hope you have had a wonderful summer!!! I can hardly believe that it is almost time for classes to start up again, I could not be more thrilled to have all my darling dancers back in the studio!!! Below is info you will need to know for the classes starting, please be sure to read through this e-mail as it will have lots of info that will help with parking, tuition and everything else! Please let me know if you have any questions and also I've attached the schedule and policies and procedures just in case you forgot which time your daughters class is and the policies and procedures will have lots of important info as well!

Classes will begin Monday August 8th

Parking/drop-off:

For new students my address is 3427 W. Chatel Dr. Be sure to come in through the gate on the east side of my house to go down to the studio.
It is very important that parking and drop off procedures are followed as closely as possible. We want to be considerate of my neighbors as well as keep the girls safe while coming and going to the studio! All drop off needs to happen on the west side of the street (Arosa) if you are parking and waiting or parking and coming into the studio please park on the east side of the street (Arosa.) This helps to keep traffic flowing smoothly as well as keeps kids from having to run across the street without an adult. Absolutely no double parking and no parking on the corner by the stop sign. Please feel free to park in front of my house or in my drive-way as well when you are waiting to pick up! I really appreciate your consideration and thank you in advance for always following the parking rules!

Dress Code:
It is important for dancers to wear dance attire. Leotard and tights, as well as leggings and fitted tops are acceptable dance wear. No baggy or street clothing. It is also important that dancers have their hair pulled back and out of their faces. Absolutely NO jewelry.

Shoes:
If dancer is only in one of the 2-3 or 3-4 yr old class they will only need black ballet shoes. Girls in either jazz and ballet or jazz, ballet and hip hop will need the following. Black jazz shoes, foot undeez and black high top converse (for hip hop) this year all hip hop classes will have the exact same shoes. They can be a converse knock off but must be black high tops. You can get dance shoes at discountdance.comamazon.com, walmart, target and payless. All ballet shoes must be leather or canvas please don't buy the silk ballet shoes at walmart they are too slippery and don't show the girls feet well enough.

Attendance:
Dancers must arrive on time to class and ready to dance. Any dancer missing for illness, injury or vacation may be excused through an instructor. Dancers have 30 days from the time of their absence to participate in a make-up class. No make-up classes during December and May since classes are working on dances for the recital.

Please be sure that your dancer isn't missing an excessive amount of dance and especially close to the recital. It is very hard to clean dances when dancers are missing, please keep this in mind when planning family vacations.

Tuition and Registration:

Registration- in order for a student to begin classes, a registration form must be completed, signed and returned to the studio. In addition, a registration fee of $20per student, plus $15 per each additional student in a family will be charged at the beginning of each dance year.

Tuition- Tuition may be paid monthly or by semester and is due by the 1st of each month or semester. * Tuition is calculated based on an annual rate and divided into equal monthly or semester payments. Therefore, there is no pro-rating for months with holidays.
Payment may be made by cash, Venmo, Paypal, or check payable to ACADEMY OF DANCE, and placed in the tuition box or given in person to your instructor. We now have an outdoor box if you would like to drop off during after hours.
If using PayPal you will need mark when paying that it is for "friends or family", otherwise there is an added fee. If you pay using "for goods or services" there is a 10% added fee you will need to put on top of fee being paid. I have received several payments without parents adding in the added fee, I will be sending a payment request when this is the case!
If paying using PayPal use the e-mail address: academyofdance01@gmail.com
Venmo: my username is @Brittani-Knudsen or the e-mail address is alsoacademyofdance01@gmail.com

Any payments received after the 10th of the month/semester will be subject to an automatic $10 charge to your account. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS...please just add the $10 fee after the 10th.

There is a $25 charge for any returned checks.

Any unpaid balance after 30 days will result in suspension from all classes until payment is received in full.

Refunds- No refunds of monthly or semester tuition payments will be given after the second class.

*Note: A 5%(multi family)/10% single famliy discount will be given if tuition is paid per semester.

Costume fee's and installments:
All dancers will be measured for costume the first two weeks of dance. If you won't be there please let me know so I can have you measure them and send me their measurements. I will be ordering costumes middle of August in order to get costumes here in time for the Winter recital!

Recitals:
There will be a winter and a spring recital. Once I am able to secure my dates through the school I will send those dates out. It has gotten more and more difficult to secure dates so hoping I am able to get some decent concert dates this year. I am planning on doing the dress rehearsal and recital on the same night again this year, then we will do the spacing rehearsal at the Hamilton view indoor Pavilion for each again.

There is a $20 per dancer recital fee due in November and in May for each dancer participating in the recital. This allows us to have a ticket free recital...yeah!!!

Few more reminders I had forgotten:

1: Please be sure to have all younger dancers use the restroom prior to coming to dance. It get very hard to keep the kids attention when there is a lot of movement in and out of the studio for bathroom or whatever else. If the girls are taken before they should be able to hold it for the 45 min-60 min of class...that helps me and my assistants out big time.

2. All classes who are here for longer than an hour will be given a short break between classes. Parents can send a drink and a snack. Please be sure to send a snack that won't leave a huge mess and something quick and easy for the girls to eat between classes.

3. For younger classes it is best if parents plan to drop dancers off in the studio and leave. Either waiting in the foyer (there is a glass door you are welcome to watch through) or you are welcome to leave the studio all together. I've found having parents in the studio while I'm trying to teach adds distraction and makes it much harder on everyone. There may be a few girls who are sad the first few times, I have an assistant in my younger classes that I lean on if I do. We will take very good care of each dancer and they will get used to dancing better if mom isn't in the room!!!

4. Flexibility: We did a huge push last year for each of the dancers to get their splits. I want to push just as hard this year. Please have your dancer working on wall sits (they will know what these are from class) I have my dancers sit in these from 5-7 min. these will help greatly with flexibility. They would also greatly benefit from practicing their splits at home during the week. I would set the timer and have them hold each split for one minute. I cannot begin to tell you have much flexibility helps in every aspect of dance, your added support will help to push these girls along even more this year. Also girls who get their Right, Left and Middle Splits and keep them till the recital will receive their favorite king size candy bar. I'll hand them out to girls before winter and summer breaks!

Whew...I think that is it for now. Please be sure to check the blog www.academyofdance01.blogspot if you need extra info, I post all the the info that I send out in e-mails there. I also have an Academy
of Dance instagram...follow academyofdance01 for reminders and added info as well!

Thanks so much, I really can't tell you enough how excited I am for this upcoming year!!!

Much Love:
